1.Cut up an old shirt or cloth that you may have and make some pretty ribbons. The receiver will know that you put some extra thought into wrapping up their gift. And, everyone likes knowing that extra effort was made.
2.Many of us have odd shoelaces, random pieces of string or even yarn around the house which can all be used as ribbons or bows.
3.Maps and Calendars -Don’t have time to decorate your packages ? No worries. Old maps and calendars are another source of relatively large sheets of paper that are already colorful in their own right. Since almost everyone in the world depends on Google to provide directions from point A to point B, there’s little chance that you’ll be searching for a paper map anytime soon. Calendars are only relevant for 365 days before becoming outdated forever but many have funny or beautiful images within. Instead of tossing these paper goods, keep them around as convenient wrapping for holiday and birthday gifts

Consider skipping the wrap job altogether when appropriate. This works well for hostess wines or homemade soaps tucked into gift baskets.
Gift as it is, no wrapping required. A hand written note works the best.

I fully agree with what you say. Wrapping is one of those monumental wastage, especially when it doesn't add any value to the process. The first thing the receiver does is to just tear the wrap making wrapping a wasteful activity. Almost all of us have been trained to believe that wrapping is part of the experience and essential part of the gifting process. And most of us never attempt to think as to how much merit is there in this thinking. And even if some of us do, we feel not so confident in doing it right fearing social ridicule. So as you say, the need is to be confident and do what you believe is right. It is the confident ones that will make a difference.
A good idea will be to leave a nice note describing the concern every time one gifts something to some one. Gift as it is and add a note expressing your thoughts on environment and conservation. That way people will appreciate and some of them may even follow

Certainly a great awareness activity thru this website.I would like to share it on my FB so that other people can read & adapt good practice. It's very important to our society that not to use Polybags or bags made-up of synthetic elements. These polybags can not be reusable or recycled. One more important things to be noted down that during heavy rain we people face water logging on the roads & living area which is mainly due to plenty use of Polybags in our society.

Re- use wrapping paper. Use gift bags as people usually save it and use it for their gifts as well.

Very interesting and innovative ideas indeed. Especially using the old drawings. My 8 year old daughter loves making drawings and didn't know know what to do with them. Now I know.
One can also use old calendars. Fabrics like old cushion covers and bedcovers ( they have very intersting patterns and colours) can be used either to make gift bags or just cut the fabric as required and wrap your gift like a Potli for a very eclectic look.
Great initiative. Keep up the good work.

We must buy or make cardboard recyclable attractive boxes which bows and flowers drawn on them so their is our personal touch of colouring and also their is no wastage of material for gift- wrapping papers or bows. Also real dried leaves or flowers can be used to decorate the boxes. If somebody is not artistic then only fingers can be dipped into paint and colourful fingerprints can be made to decorate the boxes.

Reuse the old gift wraps. In case of new ones, make sure that they are biodegradable and don't clog the drains/sewerage lines or become a toxicant by releasing chemicals in the soil. Recycled Paper Gift Wrap
Old habits die hard. If you can’t get excited about upcycled alternatives, or are wrapping a really special gift for that really special someone and need everything to be perfect, don’t despair. Over the past few years, lots of companies have gotten on the green wagon, creating wrapping paper that looks and feels like the stuff you remember, only no trees are sacrificed in its making. Look for brands like FishLips, Green Field Paper Company, and Ecosaurus which use post-consumer recycled waste and a chemical-free treatment process to create their wrapping.
