Hey folks, I am Aman Ladia from Bombay Scottish School, Mahim, Mumbai. I have taken an initiative to start a drive against reckless usage of wrapping sheets. Join the club.
Go on, Be A Rebel this year. Say NO to WRAPPING Sheets.
Spare few minutes....
Spare few minutes....
Wrap your gifts with love and not with wrapping sheets.
Recent study conducted in UK says that total waste wrapping paper that UK alone produces over Christmas could stretch to the moon. Sounds little exaggerated but fact is that 10,734 tonnes of Christmas wrapping paper is sent to landfills, in UK alone! That means, our country needs to worry more with hundreds of festivals, diwali, christmas, id, endless birthday parties, long wedding celebartions, babyshowers……………….and our mounting landfills!!!
A lot of awareness is being generated in our country regarding reduction of non-biodegradable waste. There is a movement to reduce usage of plastic bags all around. You go anywhere, stand alone shops or stores like Lifestyle, Pantaloon or Hamleys toys store, you will find in bold letters, ‘ Plastics bags are chargeable’. Yes of course! people are changing, refusing plastic bags, holding the shopping either loose in their hands or putting them in their own bags.
But it is ironical that I see so many people ( I was also a part of same until recently!) coming out with items in their hand, turning to packing section and getting these gifts wrapped in choicest of wrapping sheets. And the good part is for the stores it is a marketing trick…..”Gift wrapping at our cost”. Even if people do not want gifts to be packed, they will request the packer sweetly to pass them few wrapping sheets.
Hence the benefit that the society should have got by saying “No to PLASTIC BAGS” is getting offset by the fact that we are ruthlessly using dyed, laminated, plastic, metallic gift wrapping sheets which cannot be “RECYCLED” and end up in our city’s landfills. In fact this is doing big harm to our mother Earth. Also essence of gifting which is love is lost under the cover of wrapping sheets.
So let us stand up and start packing our gifts differently . We can use our old drawings, outdated maps, comic books to pack them or simply slip the gift in a reusable paper or a cloth bag with a beautiful message. Yes there are endless ways…. we can surely help. We must!.... Please join the voice and let it echo everywhere.
